According to Ko's manager to Taiwanese publication United Daily Story, which first reported the news on Monday, "a few days ago, an accident occured while filming that caused major deformation of the face and (Ko) is currently having therapy" (Jan 9).
The production team's spokesman claimed that during the shoot, safety procedures were implemented. There was no drone explosion or blade cracking since the drone's blades were protected by a cover.
The statement added, "Unfortunately, for unexplained circumstances, the drone accidently hit Ko's cheekbone area and caused injuries," adding that investigations were ongoing.
Ko will continue to be filmed for sequences not involving him as he recovers.
The actor, 31, portrays a former drug user who has become a psychic who is hired to carry out a Chinese god's instructions in the series based on conventional Taiwanese beliefs, which began production in November.
Produced by Taiwan's Good Films Production and Singapore's mm2 Entertainment, it is anticipated to be the most expensive Taiwanese film ever made.
The programme, which also features Johnny Yang, Buffy Chen, Hsueh Shih-ling, and Wang Po-chieh, is directed by Donnie Lai.
Ko is most recognised for his breakthrough performance in the 2011 Taiwanese coming-of-age film You Are The Apple Of My Eye, for which he won the Golden Horse Award for Best New Actor.
In 2014, when he and Hong Kong star Jaycee Chan were detained in Beijing for marijuana smoking, he became involved in a drug scandal.
